How to keep your home warm
It is important for your health that you keep warm in winter, and there are many ways of keeping the warmth in without the worry of running up large heating bills.
Rooms of the house
Draw your curtains when it starts to get dark. Thick, lined curtains help to keep the warmth in. But do not let them hang over radiators or heaters. If there is a window sill, they should reach the top of the sill.
Keep windows and doors closed. If a room is too hot, turn the heating down instead of opening a window.
Clothing
Wear warm clothes when it's cold. Several layers of light clothing are better than one layer of thick clothing.
Heating
Only use the heating when you need it, but make sure the temperature does not fall below 16°C (61°F). We recommend a room temperature of 18°C (65°F) if you are active and 21°C (70°F) if you are not. You can use our Warmth without worry thermometer to check your room temperature.
Keep at least one room well heated and sleep there if necessary rather than be cold at night.
