  • Pay as you go meters

  • A pay as you go meter allows you to pay for your gas and electricity as you use it. You won’t receive a bill from us, so it’s a simple way to pay for your energy.

It helps you to budget for your energy use, and you can see how much energy you use on a daily basis. We’ll still send you a statement each year so you can keep an eye on how much you’ve used.

If you have any outstanding debt from your past energy bills, we can add this to the pay as you go meter and spread it out into affordable weekly repayments.

    Topping up your meter

It’s easy to keep your meter topped up. All you need to do is take your electric key or gas card to your nearest PayPoint or Post Office.

Rh Smart energy  To find out where your nearest PayPoint site is, take a look at the PayPoint finder. Or, to find out where your nearest Post Office is, take a look at the Post Office finder.

It’s important to keep your gas and electricity meter topped up, or your supply may stop unexpectedly. You’ll have emergency credit on your meter, in case you’re not able to top up your meter straight away. When you next top up your meter, you’ll need to buy enough credit to repay any emergency credit you’ve used, as well as covering your everyday usage.

Rh Smart energy  Make sure you look after your key/card by keeping it clean and in good working condition. If it gets dirty or damaged, it may not work, and replacement keys and cards may be charged for.

    Going on holiday?

One more thing to do before you go – check your meter to make sure you’ve got enough credit to last until you get back! Even if you’ve turned all your appliances off, the meter will still collect the weekly repayments towards any outstanding balance you may owe.

Make sure you’ve got enough credit for appliances you have left on, such as your fridge and freezer. If you run out, there’ll be nobody home to start the emergency credit. And nobody wants to come home to a defrosted freezer!

Rh Smart energy  Most customers use more energy in the winter. So you'll need to top up with more money during the colder months. To make things easier, set yourself a weekly budget so that you build up a credit on your meter in the summer. Then you won't be spending a lot more in the winter.
