• Nation’s heart charity names SSE a Heart Hero

  • SSE (Scottish and Southern Energy), has been recognised at this year’s British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland’s Heart Hero Awards.

Marjory Burns, Director at BHF Scotland, says: “Since 2005, SSE, including its SWALEC brand, has raised over £1million – that’s around £200,000 a year – which is an amazing achievement.

“The company has helped us in several ways. The main way it has raised vital funds is through its energyplus Pulse product, which sees a donation made to the BHF when customers join and remain with the scheme.

“SSE has also engaged its 20,000 staff at 17 sites around the UK in fundraising, volunteering, distributing our heart health information and collecting stock for our shops. Volunteering is one of the valuable ways in which SSE staff have shown their support. In fact we were indebted to the training team based in Perth when they volunteered at our office in Edinburgh to make customer care calls to our supporters around Scotland.”

Craig Baxter, SSE’s Head of Marketing Operations, adds: “This award recognises the huge contribution that both our customers and staff have made in making our partnership with the British Heart Foundation such a success.

“We not only provide a simple way for our customers to show their support through our fundraising product but it’s fantastic that our staff are also fully behind the partnership, undertaking various activities to help us go beyond the million mark.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with the British Heart Foundation for years to come, helping raise even more vital funds needed to save lives.”
