    From grassroots to glory

This year the SWALEC Finals Day saw local supporters flocking to the Millennium Stadium on Monday 2 May to round off the bank holiday with a triple-header thriller and entertainment for the whole family.

Over 9,000 fans watched from the stands as Pontypridd enjoyed a 35-24 SWALEC Cup victory over Aberavon, Ammanford triumphed over Glynneath by 35-13 in the SWALEC Plate, and Senghenydd took the SWALEC Bowl title from Maesteg Quins after winning 31-30 on the iconic pitch.

Pontypridd took on the Wizards in a highly-competitive finale game. A thriller of a Cup final came to an end with Pontypridd securing the victory, after contending against a spirited Aberavon side throughout.

Ammanford RFC won the SWALEC Plate Final for the second time in three years with a confident display against Glynneath. Ammanford, having collected the SWALEC Plate title, will now focus on trying for a SWALEC League two east win.

With both sides topping the respective SWALEC division four leagues, Senghenydd and Maesteg Quins’ clash was a well-matched, nail-biting challenge. Senghenydd’s ability to dominate the set piece clinched the win, making the club double winners of the SWALEC Bowl and their SWALEC League.

Off the pitch, SWALEC and the Welsh Rugby Union delivered an action-packed event with a ‘Power Kick with the Stars’ competition that saw Wales international players James Hook and Rhys Priestley take to the pitch, a ‘Power Punt’ on-pitch challenge through which two fans won summer international rugby tickets, ‘Mini-Sparks’ tag rugby and a Kid’s Zone to energise youngsters with face painting, balloon artistry, a bucking bronco and player signing and photo opportunities.

A key objective for SWALEC is to support the communities in which we serve. Through our rugby sponsorship we strive to enhance the rugby experience for fans and players alike. That is why SWALEC customers were offered a fantastic half price ticket offer for the event and SWALEC staff enjoyed free entry.

Winner of Real Radio’s SWALEC Finals Day competition, Sean Phillips enjoyed a hospitality box for 12 of his friends and family plus the opportunity to meet SWALEC brand ambassador and Welsh international player, Ryan Jones, courtesy of SWALEC.

Mr Phillips commented, “Well, what an absolute amazing day we had! It was fantastic! It couldn't have been any better. When Ryan Jones came to the box, it just topped off the day, he was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the day, we all thought it would be a once in a lifetime experience but are now hoping that it won't be!”
